In a long article published last week, Ifixit returned in detail to the problematic replacement of iPhone 13 screens by third -party repairers. The specialized site then corroborated the first reports of independent repairers, which assured, in September, that Apple had introduced a bridle making inoperative face ID on the iPhone 13 whose screen had been changed outside the repair centers approved by the brand.
More specifically, for Face ID to be operational again, a small chip dedicated to the screen control had to be moved from the old slab to the new.A complex operation requiring particular tools - often unavailable within independent repair shops.Ifixit summarized that the screen change, "one of the most common phone repairs", which can be carried out with simple "hand tools", was therefore put out of reach of many third -party repairers.
Apple changes shoulder rifles ... with a simple update
This new procedure, disguised clamping, has just been abandoned by Apple.Faced with the rumble, the firm confirmed yesterday at the American media The Verge that a software update is on the way.The latter "no longer forces you to transfer the microcontroller so that Face ID continues to operate after a screen change," explains The Verge.
This software pirouette does not come out of nowhere.Apple and its approved repairers had indeed access from the start to "a software tool allowing a new screen to accept [the iPhone 13]", we read.Apple simply puts everyone back on an equal footing.
If the brand does not yet specify when this software update will be deployed, it is clear that this is good news. Not only does this indirect clamping represented a significant shortfall for third-party repairers (they were often forced to refuse normally simple and rather profitable repairs), but it also prevented the most seasoned users from replacing a screen ofiPhone 13 if necessary.
