Have you broken the screen of your brand new iPhone 13? You will necessarily have to have it replaced in the Apple Store, because the change of screen skips Face ID, the iPhone's facial recognition system.

Without AppleCare+, changing the screen of your iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 Pro costs €311.10 from Apple. It's €251.10 for an iPhone 13 Mini and up to €361.10 for an iPhone 13 Pro Max. As always, repairs are particularly expensive through Apple and many people will turn to third-party repairers to replace a broken screen. Nevertheless, with this new generation of iPhone, you better avoid breaking your screen: a screen change that is not carried out by Apple condemns Face ID facial recognition.

This is the observation made by the youtuber Phone Repair Guru. By dismantling the new Apple flagship, he found that the brand had installed two new chips on the lower part of the screen. Although seemingly innocuous, these chips are actually essential for the proper functioning of Face ID.

The youtubeur tried to exchange the screens of two iPhone 13. Even if the sensors necessary for facial recognition are functional and they are authentic screens, Face ID does not survive manipulation. The system detects that it is not the original screen and deactivates facial recognition.

There is a solution according to the youtubeur, but it is really complex to set up. It would be a question of recovering the chips present on the old slab in order to solder them to the new screen. This manipulation obviously remains beyond the reach of many repairers, and would greatly lengthen the time to replace a screen.

iPhone 13 : le changement d’écran condamne Face ID (et les réparateurs tiers)

In other words, since the screen is now linked to Face ID, it will necessarily be necessary to have your iPhone 13 repaired in the Apple Store or at an authorized repairer in order to keep facial recognition. This is all the more problematic as it is still the only method to unlock an iPhone, with the traditional alphanumeric code. This should hurt the little repairers...

Low repairability index, like everything sold on the market.

Only legislation can solve this problem linked to the greed of capitalism.

    Apple is not alone.

If you think that resetting Android frequently and changing phones every two years is better, go for it.

I've already changed the screen of my iPhone and I compared when I had it done by Apple Store, and unless I'm negligent and break the screen often, it's far from the end of the world.

On the other hand, in all markets, with overconsumption, we should have more access to the repairability of the products we consume.

You can fuck your brother, fuck your sister and fuck your grandma since you're the victim. I prefer those who are on the path of solutions rather than on the path of complaints.

to tell the truth as much change of creamery, before I was pro Apple until the day when a few droplets of water met my beautiful iphone xs max 256 of 1 year and a half. The Apple warranty obviously did not work and I was kindly offered a standard exchange at 650 euros excluding tax without even telling me which part had failed. This company is resting on its laurels, it hardly innovates anymore and offers outdated models every year at prohibitive prices. I have a Mac also this one has a screen problem a manufacturing defect the product has a 3-year repair program, I encounter the problem after 3 and a half years of life: go away , there's nothing to see: a macbook pro at 2200 euro!! And now when your screen breaks you can't even replace it on your own anymore, you have to go through their rotten after-sales service which makes you pay a blind (au better double the price), makes you waste a day of your life in the applestore and does not even guarantee that all your data will not be erased. I am certainly very tired of this box, but be careful because at the end of a moment the rope it breaks.
