Taking a screenshot of a long page on a website can be quite complex. Fortunately, on iOS, there are simple solutions, including native ones.
Sometimes, we want to take a screenshot of a website, because we fear that the content may be deleted or for some other reason. However, screenshots most often record only what is seen on the screen. If the page in question is longer than the screen, we then find ourselves having to make several captures. It is possible to make it simpler on iOS.
Then a very frequent problem arises, that of aligning the different captures correctly. Good news, iOS allows its users to take screenshots of these long pages very easily. The entire length of the page can then be captured in a single image. And the operation is very easy to perform. Here's what to do.
Take a long screenshot on iPhone
- For iPhones that don't have a home button, press and hold the power and volume up buttons at the same time time. For iPhones that have the button, it's the home button and the power button at the same time. This will trigger the screenshot.
- You will then see a preview of the screenshot at the bottom left of the screen. Tap on it.
- You are now in edit mode. At the top, you will see “Screen” and “Full Page”. Tap on “Full Page” and you will have the full length of your page.
- Tap on Done and then “Save PDF to Files”
Note, in this case, Apple saves the screenshot as a PDF as indicated. In other words, the file will not end up in the Photos app. It will be where you choose to save it. So you have to remember that.
Take a long screenshot with a third-party application
If you're not particularly fond of the way iOS captures these screenshots, there are plenty of alternative apps to consider. Most are free but include watermarks. You often have to pay to remove them and access other features.
Tailor
One of the reasons Tailor is loved is that everything is automated. The app seems to know which screenshots you want to stitch together, but you'll need to make sure that your various screenshots have "hints" (reminders of the previous upper portion). But otherwise, the process is simple and quick.
- Take the screenshots you want.
- Launch Tailor.
- If your screenshots were taken correctly, the application will find and stitch them correctly immediately.
- If you're happy with the end result, tap the share button and save it to your device.
Picsew
Unlike Tailor which is fully automated, Picsew is a better option for those who want a little more control over their captures. Picsew gives users more options when it comes to stitching images, and editing capabilities are more complete once stitching is complete.
- Take the screenshots you want.
- Launch Picsew.
- Select the photos you want to stitch together and tap Scrollshot.
- Tap on the Share button at the top right of the screen to save it.
Do these screenshots work with other browsers?
No . Currently, Apple's native long screen capture tool only works with Safari. If you are using a third-party browser like Chrome or Firefox, you will need to use a third-party app like the two mentioned above.
Can I save my captures in a format other than PDF?
No. iOS only allows you to export your long screenshots to PDF. Difficult to understand the reason for this choice but if you want to have an image file, you will have to go through a third-party application like those listed above or convert your PDF.
