As we have already written in this column, apart from a large screen, phones have nothing to envy them. But things are changing. Solutions are appearing to synchronize smartphones and the big screen.
We have already told you about the DeX system from Samsung or Huawei, which allows you to connect a smartphone to a screen by wire or wirelessly. It was a technology reserved for the high-end telephone.
Motorola is marketing a new smartphone, the G100, which incorporates this technology called by the brand “ready for”. How does it work?
This model comes with a stand and an HDMI cable to connect it to a screen or television.
The stand helps to navigate the phone if you are doing office work. It's easier than taking it in hand each time to look for information. It is composed of 2 parts: a foot and a clip that allows two inclinations of the device. The smartphone slips between the claws of a magnetic clip which ensures either vertical or panoramic positioning. It also includes a fan to cool the device while charging. The latter is unfortunately not very discreet when it starts. The attachment also has a universal screw thread to mount it on another type of foot. A USB-C port provides the connection for charging or the HDMI cable for projection on an external screen. Therefore, once connected to a keyboard or a screen, the Moto G100 becomes a “smartphone”.
The display is of two types: either it reproduces the screen of your smartphone identically (mirror display), or, via an icon that appears once the cable is connected, as a mobile desktop. From this moment, the phone screen becomes a mouse pad to move the pointer on the desktop. Phone applications are accessed via the bar at the bottom of the desktop screen. There are search, home and recent apps buttons. On the left are the settings, the lock button, a screenshot function and the management of Wifi networks.
If you do not connect a keyboard to the smartphone, it is the keyboard of this one that will allow you to write.
In addition to the mobile office, specific displays are provided such as watching videos (TV), playing games or video chatting.
Note that it is recommended to connect a charger to the HDMI cable, otherwise the battery will drop quickly.
Let's talk a bit about the phone itself.
For this device, Motorola has retained a characteristic: this impression of height marked by a narrower screen than in the usual products on the market.
The G100 incorporates a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 processor. It is compatible with 5G. Its screen has a diagonal of 165 mm. The refresh rate is 90 Hz and the definition of 2520 X 1080 pixels. 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage.
The device includes 2 sensors on the back. A 64-megapixel main sensor and a 16-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor that also takes macro photos up to 4 cm. It has a circular flash. The other sensors are used for depth of field and autofocus.
On the video side, the G100 takes up two functions already present in higher-end devices such as recording with both the rear sensor and the front sensor as well as audio zoom to record only the sound that comes from of the area of the image on which the sharpening is made.
The price of the Moto G100 with stand and cable included is €549.
