An apparently global breakdown

The problem affects both mobile and PC services, regardless of the access provider.Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp and Instagram are inaccessible, even from a web browser.By trying to access one of these sites, we get the error message "DNS_Probe_finized_nxdomain".

On Twitter, the hashtag #instagramdown is back and the number of tweets complaining about the unavailability of the service climbs rapidly, propeling the drain word as trends.Tweets are written in different languages, suggesting a large -scale breakdown, possibly globally.It was quickly followed by the hashtag #facebookdown and the simple keyword "WhatsApp".

A DNS problem on Facebook, Whatsapp and Instagram servers?

According to Jane Manchun Wong, a specialist in Reverse Engineering, it could be a DNS problem, both for public sites and for the site used for employees for their tests.

A DNS, or Domain Name System, is a kind of directory making the link between the IP address of a server and its public URL known to all.Resolution of such a problem can take several hours.

On UNI REGISTRY, it is possible to place an offer to buy one of the three domain names Facebook.com, Instagram.com and Whatsapp.com.Some evoke a hack, but it would seem more likely that it is only a bug in the Uni Registry system linked to the impossibility of joining the DNS in question.

Facebook works to repair the breakdown

Facebook also turned to Twitter to apologize for the disturbance.If no cause is raised, Facebook indicates working on the problem to bring things back to normal "as quickly as possible".

The message was also relayed to Instagram and WhatsApp accounts.Twitter, for his part, had fun by welcoming "everyone" with kindness.

DNS start to come back

Around 10 p.m. French time, Instagram DNS were put back in service.We can hope for a return of the service in the coming hours, even the next few minutes.

At 11:25 p.m., a majority of Facebook DNS are back.The site is again accessible ... but displays an error message to indicate that something has not happened properly.It smells like imminent return.

At 11:45 p.m., WhatsApp started returning to some users.Likewise for Instagram, which again rejects the stories of some.Connection problems can still intervene.

Since then, Facebook but also Cloudflare have spoken on this breakdown by detailing the technical reasons.Skindly, a modification of Facebook's parameters had made its servers invisible to the rest of the Internet.
