Samsung has just updated its list of smartphones receiving monthly security updates. And bad news for those who own a Galaxy Note 9, it will now only benefit from a quarterly update.

Samsung announced last year that it would now provide three years of Android updates to its Galaxy smartphones, as well as three years of quarterly or monthly security updates. The Seoul firm then further extended the life of its devices by promising four years of “regular” security updates (monthly or quarterly therefore) on its devices released since 2019.
The beginning of the end?
The Galaxy Note 9, released in August 2018, was released this September from this three-year period. If its version under Exynos can benefit from One UI 3.1 -under certain conditions- and therefore from Android 11, the Note 9 is officially still under One UI 2.5 (Android 10). It should therefore not move to Android 12 and One UI 4.0.

Other notable changes to Samsung's update support include that the Galaxy Note FE and Galaxy S8 Lite are no longer updated.
The Galaxy A10s, for its part, is moving from a quarterly update to a semi-annual rhythm, which should reduce it from four updates per year to two. The Galaxy A03s and F42 5G join the ranks of Galaxy smartphones updated every quarter.
In passing, the Korean firm took the opportunity to add its latest releases to the monthly updates camp. The Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3 and A52s will therefore be updated every month, which is not surprising.
