Samsung's Galaxy S range reflects all the know-how of the Korean manufacturer. Its know-how in terms of design, screen and camera. In short, it is a range of extreme importance, which should arouse even more expectation in 2022 since the disappearance of Note smartphones.

Unless surprised, the next Galaxy S should logically be called S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, to stick to the nomenclature of the group. There is no real reason for Samsung to change its tune. Below you will then find the first known more or less plausible rumors and leaks about them.

This file will obviously evolve over the company's media releases and other rumors seen on the Web.

What will be the design of the Samsung Galaxy S22?

If no official photo of the phones has leaked so far, it's a safe bet that the future trio will give pride of place to a design premium with very beautiful finishes. Each year, the observation is the same: the Galaxy S breathe the high end visually.

A Galaxy S22 that looks very similar to the Galaxy S21

OnLeaks, one of the most reputable and trusted leakers in the business, has shared HD visuals of what the Galaxy S22 might look like in its classic version. The interested party imagines here a phone roughly identical to its predecessor: flat screen, central selfie camera, vertical photo module at the back with three sensors, rounded corners and thin borders.

Samsung would opt for mini changes to the back of the phone, with a flatter front and a less protruding photo block.

According to Ice Universe, the S22 would also ditch the glasstic back and opt for glass, a material often seen as more premium.

Same philosophy for the Galaxy S22 Plus

Still according to OnLeaks and its high definition renderings, the Galaxy S22 Plus should also adopt the same design as the S21 Plus. Samsung would show a certain conservatism here with similar aesthetic elements. It is once again at the level of the measurements that small changes would be made.

The Galaxy S22 Plus would be thinner (7.6 against 7.8 mm) and shorter (157.4 mm against 161.4) compared to its predecessor.

And this time, an important evolution can be observed on the rear facade. We indeed discover a "P"-shaped photo module, housing four photo sensors... and another square-shaped sensor. It could be a periscope zoom.

OnLeaks also mentions the dimensions of the product: 163.22 x 77.9 x 8.9 mm. This thickness would not take into account the bump of the photo module. With, it would rise to 10.5 mm all the same.

The leaker accustomed to Samsung leaks, Ice Universe, brings another vision of things: the photo block of the S22 Ultra could be cut vertically in two. OnLeaks also admits that there is some uncertainty about its renderings, since Samsung could make some adjustments before the official presentation.

Nevertheless, hull visuals sent to Gizmochina seem to corroborate OnLeaks' lead on this "P"-shaped photo module.

More recently, a third version of the phone's back has been released by LetsGoDigital. This time, this third track evokes a so-called "teardrop" design. According to this hypothesis, the photo modules would protrude directly from the phone shell, without resting on a photo module. In terms of shape, however, we would remain on a P-shaped design.

Towards smaller screens?

At the screen level, the Galaxy S22 is expected to be smaller than its predecessor, according to information from two published sources mid-June. The first source, a certain MauriQHD, considers himself a leaker. He had posted photos of the Galaxy S21, which later verified. The reliability of the second source is difficult to judge.

On the other hand, the leaker Ice Universe, already more credible, but also the author of a few errors here and there, corroborated the rumors about the screen size of the phones. The interested party even published the potential dimensions, which are as follows:

Here again, OnLeaks brings its stone to the building and tends to confirm this trend. The person also mentions a 6.8-inch screen for the S22 Ultra and 6.06 inches for the Galaxy S22.

We can also wonder if the front camera of the Galaxy S22 will invite itself directly under the screen. This little technical feat has been applied to the Galaxy Z Fold 3: the door is therefore open for the brand's next high-end devices to also benefit from it.

Ice Universe has gotten its hands on supposed screen protectors. What give us some clues about the overall format of the models: with rounded corners for the S22 and S22 Plus, against square corners for the S22 Ultra, which would be directly inspired by the Note range. It would also be the only one to offer curved edges.

Hello S Pen?

Rumors also linger on the presence of an S Pen stylus. Since the disappearance of the Note range with the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, we wondered if its phablet range would be replaced by the future Galaxy S22.

Everything suggests so. The Dutch site Galaxy Club first put forward the idea that the S22 Ultra would house an S Pen Detector, a small component present in the bottom of the stylus housing which allows the said stylus to be detected.

Then, the visuals published by OnLeaks are clearly explicit: on the lower edge of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, there is a slot for the famous stylus.

Again, the renders published by Gizmochina — the potential future shells of the S22 Ultra — show a slot for a stylus.

What photo configuration for the Samsung Galaxy S22?

Samsung should move the lines when it comes to the photo configuration of its next flagships. At least for the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, which would have the right to a 50 megapixel main sensor instead of 12 megapixels observed on their predecessor, as well as a 12 megapixel ultra wide-angle.

These speculations are once again to the credit of Ice Universe (subsequently corroborated by OnLeaks), which also suggests the arrival of a 12-megapixel x3 optical zoom, to the detriment of the secondary 64-megapixel sensor which would disappear. Here, Samsung would therefore raise the tone with better versatility thanks to the optical zoom and a better defined main sensor.

Ice Universe has also insisted on this configuration by reconfirming the presence of x3 optical magnification on the duo.

Regarding the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, information varies according to leakers and the media. For Galaxy Club, which has had its share of errors in the past, no new hardware would be brought to the phone compared to the previous generation. We can hardly hope for better software processing thanks to refined algorithms.

For Ice Universe, on the other hand, the Ultra's x3 and x10 telephoto lenses would increase from 10 to 12 megapixels in order to offer better definition. The leaker goes even further and evokes a variable zoom lens – and not fixed as is the case today. If so, that would be a big step forward.

At the end of November, Ice Universe returned to the charge with many more details on the photo configuration of the S22 Ultra. Here are those predictions:

Performance and battery, the point on rumours

As you probably know, the Galaxy S are not entitled to the same processor depending on its launch market: in the United States, Samsung opts for a Snapdragon chip provided by Qualcomm – although the situation could change with certain American operators. In Europe, the brand relies on its own know-how with its in-house Exynos SoC.

Except that this year, the situation could change due to the supply and demand for semiconductors. Samsung could indeed turn to the Snapdragon 898 for its entire range, whatever the market, according to Youtuber Super Roader! This news would be met with mixed results, since the Exynos 2200 – which was initially expected on the S22s – would be entitled to a very promising Radeon GPU designed by AMD.

We also expect smaller batteries to equip the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus: 3800 mAh (or even 3700 mAh) and 4600 mAh, respectively, compared to 4000 mAh and 4800 mAh for their predecessor. Only the S22 Ultra variant would keep its 5000 mAh battery.

This information relayed by Ice Universe (him again) should once again be taken with a grain of salt. Especially since OnLeaks, always well informed on its subjects, opts for a 4500 mAh battery for the Ultra version.

Caution is also in order following the speculations of FrontTron, a Korean leaker active on the Galaxy S22, which is counting on a 65 W recharge, against 25 W compatibility last year. This really fast charging is still in the testing phase at the time of this writing.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra // Source: OnLeaks x Digit.in

But the little war of information that Ice Universe and FrontTron are waging continues more than ever: the first named contradicts his friend and claims that the Galaxy S22 Ultra will be limited to a fast charge of 45 W. The other two versions of the phone could therefore imitate it… or even be limited to a less powerful block.

Except that a 3C certification (China Compulsory Certification) probably referring to the three models mentions charging powers… of 25 W, the same as before. The doubt is therefore total, for the moment.

In November, Samsung finally unveiled new generation memory chips, which could well equip the Galaxy S22. It would then be a question of faster bandwidth and lower energy consumption thanks to a new manufacturing process.

Of course, 5G will be required.

At what price and when will the Samsung Galaxy S22 be sold?

For the time being, it is difficult to answer this question. But given Samsung's calendar, it could very well be that the brand chooses the month of January – like last year – to formalize everything. Usually, the manufacturer preferred to wait until February: a custom he changed a year ago.

Will Samsung go back to its good old habits or copy its 2020 calendar? The question remains open. We can also wonder if the shortage of chips affecting the tech sector will not disrupt its schedule. According to Korean newspaper The Elec, however, Samsung has decided to start mass production of S22 components next November, which could confirm the January launch thesis. More recently, leaker Jon Prosser advanced a February 25, 2022 release with pre-orders starting on the 9th.

As for prices, no information on this subject has yet filtered. To get an idea, let's take a look at the prices of the Galaxy S21, S21 Plus and S21 Ultra: 859, 1059 and 1259 euros, respectively, in their minimum configuration. Some small price differences could however be at the rendezvous.
