It's official: according to information published by Deadline, on August 18, 2021, Anthony Mackie will indeed take on the role of Captain America again in a fourth installment in the franchise.

Captain America is dead. Long live Captain America! We already knew this thanks to the plot started in "Avengers: Endgame" then continued in the series "Falcon and the Winter Soldier", but Anthony Mackie has now officially taken up the torch (well, the shield) of the character by becoming the official Captain America of the MCU. For fans who feared seeing the franchise dedicated to the character die out with the departure of Chris Evans, they can now be reassured since a fourth film has just been announced.

An intrigue kept secret

Present in the MCU since 2014, this will be the first time that Anthony Mackie will hold the top of the bill solo. Indeed, appeared in "Captain America: The Winter Soldier", the actor had always played second fiddle by playing the character of Falcon, one of Captain America's sidekicks.

If the film should come to be part of the fifth phase of the MCU, we do not yet know everything about the plot that will animate the fourth opus of the franchise. However, Deadline announces that the script will be signed by Malcolm Spellman, already showrunner of "Falcon and the Winter Soldier". The MCU being known to mix up its franchises, we can also expect to find some familiar faces, including why not, that of Sebastian Stan, in the role of the Winter Soldier.
