Samsung has developed an app to extend the life of its smartphones. With the latest update, this application is now able to control CPU performance in order to limit the risk of overheating. This new tool is in addition to other features related to battery and RAM management.

Some smartphone users like to change models every year or even every two years. Others, on the other hand, optimize their investment (because a smartphone is still expensive). They're protecting the phone with a hull. They use compatible accessories. They prefer to repair rather than replace. Studies prove this: the average life of a smartphone is getting longer and longer, much to the displeasure of manufacturers.

There are many habits to take to extend the life of a smartphone. The majority of them concern the battery: slow charge, restrained charge (80% or 90%), programmed charge, removal of background applications, process cleaning, reduction of definition and cooling rate, energy saving mode, etc.

Few smartphones still offer a tool that affects the performance of the processor depending on the internal temperature of the mobile. So far, the operating system is responsible for reducing performance if the heat becomes too high. Samsung has updated its Samsung Labs application with a new feature to adjust performance restraint.

Set the maximum temperature of the smartphone according to your needs

The tool is called Thermal Guardian. It allows you to adjust the internal temperature of the smartphone from which the performance of the socket is reduced. You can therefore choose a lower or higher temperature than is set by default. Note that you can only vary the clamping temperature by up to 2 °C. Up or down. The idea is to maintain maximum performance for a longer period of time before the system applies safety measures.

This tool will not be useful to everyone. It will be used mainly for video makers (4K or 8K recording for example) and competitive players, both uses where the required performances are very high. For the rest, you will have very little use of this setting, unless your smartphone tends to heat: it would solve the problem by setting the temperature limit lower. Also note that this function is offered from one UI 3.0. It is not accessible with a Galaxy running in a lower version than this one.
