The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are now officially obsolete! Four years after the launch, Samsung stops rolling out updates to the two flagship smartphones of 2017. The phones have indeed reached the end of the software support promised by the brand. In a few months, the Galaxy Note 8 should suffer the same fate.

A year ago, Samsung stopped rolling out monthly security updates to the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The two bestsellers of 2017 had to make do with quarterly security updates. This is a final step before the outright abandonment of updates.

Not surprisingly, the South Korean giant has just declared the Galaxy S8 officially obsolete. Both smartphones have just disappeared from the distribution list of security updates on smartphones in Samsung's catalog.

Samsung kept its promises by offering 4 years of software support

From now on, Samsung will no longer roll out any updates to the Galaxy S8. Deprived of regular patches, smartphones are obviously less secure than terminals that receive Google's Android security patch every month. However, the S8s will continue to function completely normally.

Note that the Galaxy S8 Active and S8 Lite are still listed in the section of smartphones that receive quarterly updates. This is not surprising given that both variants hit the market several months after the S8s. Both editions should be declared obsolete within a few months.

This is also the case with the Galaxy Note 8. Launched in August 2017, the smartphone currently has to make do with security updates every three months since last year. Around August or September, Samsung should declare the Note 8 obsolete. Like the S8, it is coming to the end of the software support promised by the manufacturer.
