South Korean giant Samsung announced four new foldable display technologies at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2022, including three new screens that could be used in smartphones and one screen that could be used in a foldable laptop. Samsung, the company which is considered a champion in the field of foldable screens, has been manufacturing market-ready foldable phones for over two years now. The company has now revealed the Flex S, Flex G, Flex Slidable, and Flex Note panels during CES 2022. Among these four panels, the Flex S, Flex G, and Flex Slidable panels are for smartphones, while the Samsung Flex panel Note would be for foldable laptops without a keyboard.

Samsung hasn't revealed plans to turn these concepts into actual products just yet. The company unveiled the Flex Note, which is essentially a single, continuous screen that folds in half to create a laptop without a keyboard. Users will thus be able to take advantage of the additional screen surface to consume media and other content, while having a touch keyboard on the side like a smartphone.

The Samsung Flex G and Samsung Flex S concepts are named after the way they unfold. This means that the Flex S has three separate panels that fold outwards to form a larger screen. The Samsung Flex S offers a much larger 'unfolded' form factor with a compact design, but the two outward-facing panels can be prone to scratches. The Flex G also features three collapsible panels that fold inwards rather than outwards.

The Samsung Flex Slidable, on the other hand, is an extendable screen that unfolds to reveal a larger form factor. It looks like the Oppo X 2021 concept we saw in 2020 and the LG Rollable that was rumored to arrive before the company drew a line under its smartphone business. A 'stretchable' smartphone from Samsung has also been rumored for the past couple of years, and this might be our first look at this smartphone.
