It has been five years since Samsung Cloud was launched. Like many companies at the time, Samsung thought launching its own cloud storage service would be a good idea.

Samsung will delete Samsung Cloud data next month

This year, the brand decided to end its Samsung Cloud storage service. The company has already removed several features from the service and is now preparing to end data download support next month. Before that, the Korean firm sent emails to Samsung Cloud users to remind them of the fast approaching deadline.

According to a published email, from September 30, Gallery Sync and Drive storage will no longer be supported by Samsung Cloud and data will be deleted. The letter also contains a service termination schedule. The end of this month of September will therefore mark “the definitive abandonment of the functionalities subject to end”, confirms the said e-mail.

Note that the deadline may vary by region or user group. Samsung has already set two separate deadlines for two groups, September 30 for Group 1 and November 30 for Group 2. But, unfortunately, it is not known which region or country belongs to which group. The latest report comes from the Daily Express, so it might be aimed at users in the UK. However, users from other regions could also belong to Group 1.

How to download Samsung Cloud data?

When Samsung first announced this phased shutdown of Samsung Cloud, it offered users the option to move their data to Microsoft's OneDrive. But the support is now no longer available for Group 1 users. So downloading the data locally is the only option left, but this process isn't too complicated.

The easiest way to download Samsung Cloud data is from the Galaxy smartphone. To do this, you have to go to Settings >> Accounts and backup and search for Samsung Cloud (it can usually be found in the “Others” section at the bottom). Once on Samsung Cloud, a "Data Download" button at the top will allow you to transfer and save.

However, for users who do not have enough storage capacity on their phone, the Samsung Cloud data needs to be downloaded to a computer. It is possible to go to the official Samsung Cloud website and access the Gallery to download the data.

Besides, Samsung is not shutting down Samsung Cloud as a whole. It will continue to store users' contacts, calendar, documents, and notes. But it will no longer be possible to save photos and videos.

So for those who want to switch to another cloud storage service or just back up data locally, make sure to make a decision before November 30. It's unlikely there will be any more expansions after this.
