2For the first time, the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is stealing leadership from Samsung in the smartphone market in Europe. Apple completes the podium, while Realme makes a spectacular breakthrough.
Short of a salvo of announcements on its new products, Samsung has just lost for the first time its status as the No. 1 seller of smartphones in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa). In ambush for quite a while now, Xiaomi is on the top step of the podium in the second quarter of 2021.
Strategy Analytics drew these conclusions in a recent report. According to him, Xiaomi would have sold 12.7 million smartphones between May and July, an impressive increase of 67.1% compared to the same period in 2020. The Chinese manufacturer would represent a total of 25.3% of the smartphone market on the region. Four countries would have played a key role in this paradigm shift: Russia, Ukraine, Spain and Italy. Another recent report by Omdia had also placed Xiaomi in second position among the world's largest sellers, behind Samsung.
Samsung back in the lead after its announcements?
At the same time, Samsung saw its sales numbers drop 7% year-on-year, to a total of 12 million devices shipped in the second quarter. The Korean giant would represent 24% of the market. However, it could quickly regain the lead if its next announcements find the expected echo with consumers.
Apple completes the top three with 19.2% market share, ahead of Oppo (5.6%) and Realme (3.8%, with a phenomenal 1800% year-on-year growth ). Overall, in the EMEA region, 50.1 million smartphones were sold this last quarter, or 14.4% more than in 2020. Quite logical figures, since telephony had been one of the many sectors affected. by the global health crisis.
