After taking out the Galaxy Fold in 2019, Samsung takes advantage of its first UNPACKED event in 2020 to unveil another foldable smartphone: the Galaxy Z Flip.While the Galaxy Fold was a smartphone-tablet hybrid, the Z flip is a modern version of the valve phone.Its advantage is therefore that you have a compact phone, but with an XXL screen when it is unfolded.
In terms of technical sheet, we are on more modest configurations than those of the Galaxy S20.On the other hand, the Z FLIP costs less than the first foldable smartphone in Samsung, and is a priori more resistant since Samsung has made improvements to the foldable screen and the hinge mechanism.
The manufacturer mainly highlights the elegance and practicality of design.

We start this opinion on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip with design, which is its main strong point.As mentioned above, the second foldable smartphone from Samsung is a modernized version of the old valve phones.When it is folded, you have a compact square device that is easily stored in a pocket or in a small bag.

But when you unfold the Galaxy Z Flip, you have a 6.7 -inch diagonal XXL screen.

Of course, this is not the only advantage of the foldable screen since Samsung also made the device be maintained in an intermediate position.And this can be practical when you want to take a selfie, or use the smartphone (for example for a video call) without having to hold it.

Regarding the aesthetics, the Galaxy Z Flip is a simple and elegant smartphone.
Otherwise, with regard to the hinge, Samsung evokes a scanning technology that pushes dirt and dust to ensure a good lifespan of the device.
And the foldable screen of the Galaxy Z Flip is covered by ultra -fine foldable glass while the previous foldable smartphones have plastic screens.According to Samsung Display, this new material has been tested by Bureau Veritas and should resist more than 200,000 folds.
On the back of the Galaxy Z Flip, we have a small secondary screen, with a 1.1 inch diagonal, which displays information such as notifications, when the smartphone is folded.
Screen size and performance
In our opinion, Samsung has made no concessions with regard to the quality of the Galaxy Z Flip screen.The device has a 6.7 -inch Dynamic AMOLED screen (21.9: 9) which displays an FHD+resolution.
In addition, Samsung has made optimizations in terms of software so that we can fully take advantage of the format of the Galaxy Z Flip.For example, when the smartphone is in an intermediate position, half of the screen can be used to display content, while the other half displays settings.

It is also possible to take advantage of the elongated shape of this screen to open two applications at the same time.

The Galaxy Z Flip is available in two colors: Mirror Purple and Mirror Black.Otherwise, there is also a “Thom Brown” edition with the three bands that characterize this brand.

Technical characteristics of the Galaxy Z Flip
In our opinion, if the Galaxy Z Flip has a perfect design and screen, Samsung, however, seems to have made some concessions on other elements of the technical sheet.
For example, the foldable smartphone uses a Snapdragon 855+ processor while most high -end smartphones of 2020 (including the Galaxy S20) will have a more recent processor.
But anyway, it is a platform that is not yet obsolete and that should allow the Galaxy Z Flip to have performance comparable to those of the Galaxy Note 10, for example.
On the Galaxy Z Flip, this processor is accompanied by a RAM memory of 8 GB and 256 GB of storage.
It should also be noted that the Galaxy Z Flip does not support 5G.
The fingerprint scanner is placed on the side of the device.
Camera and image processing
As with the processor, Samsung has, in our opinion, made some concessions with regard to cameras.The Galaxy Z Flip has "only" two cameras on the back: a main 12 megapixel sensor and an ultra-angle 12 megapixel camera.
On the front, we have a 13 megapixel camera which is placed on a bubble pierced on the foldable screen.
Battery and quick recharge
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip has a double battery of 3,300 mAh, which should allow the device to have acceptable autonomy.This can be recharged with the Quick Charge 2.0 quick charging system.
Wireless recharge is also supported by the Galaxy Z Flip.
Price of the Galaxy Z Flip
In France, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip will be sold at 1,500 euros.Although it remains high, the device is more affordable than the previous foldable smartphone in Samsung whose price exceeded 2,000 euros.

Regarding design and screen, Samsung deserves, in our opinion, a 20/20.The Korean giant has managed to use foldable screens technology to offer a smartphone that is both practical and elegant.On the other hand, in certain areas, such as cameras or processors, the manufacturer has made concessions (despite which we should be able to take good photos and have good performance).
And even if Samsung the Galaxy Z Flip is sold at a lower price than that of the Galaxy Fold, this second foldable smartphone could still be considered a luxury product.Fortunately, as the production of foldable smartphones increases, the prices of these will gradually decrease.
