Samsung took advantage of the CES of Las Vegas to present the types of folding screens on which its Samsung Display division works.Concepts that could be found in the future.
The Samsung Flex G // Concept: Samsung Display
During the CES in Las Vegas, Samsung presented several smartphones concepts with flexible screens.Formats very different from those already offered by the Korean manufacturer on its two models currently offered, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.
In addition to its foldable PC Samsung Flex Note, the firm posted a press release this Friday to present the different flexible screen technologies on which its Samsung Display division works on.Enough to discover - or rediscover - phones or tablets formats that go further than the simple folds offered by the Fold and Flip.
The most original concept is very clearly the Slidable Flex format. It is indeed an wrapable and stretch screen, in the same vein as OPPO was able to reveal last spring with its Oppo X 2021.So we have a smartphone with a rather classic, elongated format, whose screen can take place on the right side to lie down in order to offer an experience a little closer to that of a tablet.
This is not the first time that Samsung has revealed this stretch screen concept, the Korean manufacturer having already presented it last November.Nevertheless, the CES was an opportunity for the firm to allow users to take charge of this prototype.
Also shown for the first time last November before taking hand at CES, Samsung unveiled its Flex S folding screen concept. Here, the S refers to the shape of the smartphone partly unfolded, since we are dealing here with a smartphone with vertical folds, as on the Galaxy Z Fold 3, but two and not a single fold.
What to take advantage of, once the smartphone is completely unfolded, a screen three times larger than when it is folded."The main advantage of this format is that depending on how you fold it, it can be used as a smartphone, tablet or an artificial intelligence device," said Samsung.
The Samsung Flex S // concept: Samsung Display
If the Flex S screen offers an interior folding and an external fold, the last concept of samsung display, the Flex G goes further since it offers this time two interior folds.Again, the letter G here refers to the shape of the folds when the smartphone folds. The advantage of this format is to have a protected screen when it is completely folded since it is only inside the smartphone: "The device benefits from greater durability since its design for twofolds it from falls or external impacts better than for conventional folds ».
Screens that could be found at Samsung ... but not only
If these three screen concepts were presented at CES in Las Vegas, these are not necessarily products that will be launched by Samsung in the coming months ... at least not necessarily.Samsung Display does not only provide his parent house in Oled slabs, but a large part of the smartphones industry.
Here, it is therefore a question for the supplier to democratize his technologies in order to seduce not only the general public, but also and above all, his potential customers. We could therefore find these slidable flex screens, Flex S or Flex G on Oppo, Xiaomi, Realme or Google smartphones in the future.
